Custom Sign Deposit: How Much Deposit Do I Need?

If you are ordering a custom sign for your business, most orders start with a 50% deposit and a 50% balance. If the order is large or material-heavy, we may ask for 60% so the deposit covers the actual material cost. The final number is always written on your PI. When you pay your custom sign deposit, we lock in your materials and put your order into our production queue. You pay the remaining balance only after production is finished and you review our testing photos and videos.

I know it can feel uncomfortable to send money to a factory you have never met. Most of my customers ask me the same question before they order: how much do I need to pay upfront, and what happens if something changes? We have exported more than 500 custom sign projects to North America. They include front-lit channel letters for a golf storefront in California, a wireless shop in Florida, restaurant signs in New York, college signage in New York, a channel letter project in Texas, and a double-sided blade sign in Washington, D.C. Every project is different, but the payment process should still be clear before you send the first payment.

Custom Sign Deposit: How Much Do I Need?

Our usual starting point is a 50% deposit. On large or material-heavy orders, we may ask for 60% so the deposit covers the real material cost. The final number is always written on your PI. For example, if your total sign order is $2,000, your deposit is $1,000, and your final balance is $1,000.

A deposit is part of your total project cost, not an extra fee. Because custom signs are made specifically for your business name and logo, we cannot resell them to anyone else. The deposit covers our upfront material purchases and secures your spot in our workshop.

What does the deposit cover?

The deposit funds the raw materials needed for your sign. This includes acrylic sheets, aluminum returns, LED modules, and power supplies.

It also covers your technical setup work. Our team uses your deposit to create shop drawings, program our cutting equipment, and make 1:1 scale paper installation templates. Once paid, your project is ready for fabrication.

When is the balance due?

Your balance is due after your sign is built and tested in our workshop. Before you pay the rest, we send you clear photos and videos showing your sign fully lit up.

We want you to see your finished sign working properly before it goes into a wooden crate. After you check and approve the media, you pay the balance, and we ship your order.

What payment methods do you accept?

You can pay your deposit and balance through PayPal, credit cards, or direct bank wire transfers, depending on what is stated on your official Proforma Invoice.

Different payment methods have different processing times and fees. Wire transfers can take a few business days to land, while credit cards and PayPal process immediately. For international trade safety guidelines and contract standards, you can also review resources like the International Chamber of Commerce.

What is included in the price before you pay the balance?

When you review a detailed sign quote from our sign manufacturer team, your PI should clearly list what is included in the total price. We handle your project from start to finish.

  • Manufacturing: Our workshop hand-assembles and wires your sign.
  • DDP Freight: International delivery managed under DDP shipping terms to your US or Canadian address.
  • Duties and Taxes: Import tariffs, customs clearance, and brokerage fees are covered by us.
  • Crating and Insurance: Heavy-duty export wooden crating paired with transit insurance.
  • Templates and Warranty: 1:1 installation paper templates and the warranty length listed in your PI. You can also view our past work on our portfolio or read about overall pricing factors on our cost guide.

Can I split the payment into more installments?

Most orders use a 50% deposit and a 50% balance. On large or material-heavy custom orders, we may ask for a 60% deposit and a 40% balance so the deposit covers the actual material cost. The final payment schedule is always written on your PI.

If you have a large corporate roll-out with multiple locations, we can review the payment schedule case by case and confirm it in writing. We only work based on what we write down in your official invoice or contract.

How to protect yourself when paying a sign deposit

When you buy a custom sign, keep these basic safety steps in mind:

Always ask for an official Proforma Invoice that lists our business details and bank accounts correctly. Check that the payee name matches our company records. Never pay your balance until you see the test photos and videos. Make sure your shipping terms are DDP so you do not deal with unexpected customs charges, and save your chat logs and receipts. Frequently asked questions

How much deposit is normal for a custom sign?

A 50% deposit is standard, though larger or material-heavy custom orders may require 60% as stated on your PI. It lets us buy raw materials and start building your custom sign.

Is the deposit refundable?

Once your drawings are approved and we start cutting your materials, deposits are usually non-refundable. Everything is governed by the terms on your PI or contract.

Do I pay the balance before or after shipping?

You pay the balance before your sign ships out, but only after you approve the test photos and videos we send you.

Can I pay by PayPal or credit card?

Yes, we accept credit cards, PayPal, and bank wire transfers based on the payment options confirmed in your PI.

Does the deposit include shipping?

Your total quote covers everything, including DDP shipping, split into your deposit and balance payments.

What if the sign is damaged in transit?

If something arrives damaged, I do not want you to figure it out alone. Send us photos and video of the crate and sign, and we will help collect the evidence and submit the insurance claim according to your PI and the insurer's decision.
